James’ Apprenticeship Blog – Part 6

James Jenkins | October 2023

Hi, my name is James, I started my IT apprenticeship on the 20th of February 2023.
This blog series is about my experiences working as an IT apprentice at a successful law firm in the heart of Plymouth.

Since I last wrote a blog post, I participated in our staff well-being week. The week was filled with various activities, and I took part in as many activities as I could. As part of the week, I attended talks by Devon Mind and WPA, and also participated in a session called Pets and Picasso. It was a fun and informative experience, and I enjoyed being a part of it.

This month, I had the exciting opportunity to participate in our company’s fiercely competitive pumpkin competition. As part of this annual tradition, every team within the organization crafts their very own unique pumpkin creation. These pumpkin masterpieces are then proudly showcased on our company’s website and then voted on by anyone who goes on our website.

I also had the opportunity to be involved in the preparations for an event – an informational and networking gathering for the law students at the University of Plymouth. My role in ensuring the event’s success involved various tasks that revolved around transforming our office into an engaging and welcoming environment for the attendees, I did this by setting out chairs for the guests, putting up signs and banners and making the office look as tidy as possible and also moving the tv from one of our meeting rooms to the area where the event is happening and then setting up the presentation on it.

I have also been catching up with my coursework this month and attending the workshops that are set up. The workshop I recently took part in was called “Install Configure test” In the workshop I was shown a video on how to properly install a server onto a rack and also about all the different ways you can install an operating system. Apart from attending workshops, I have been completing some more of my coursework and working on my projects.

James will be back next month to update us on his progress at the firm. For further news from Bright Solicitors, please visit our News & Events Page.
