Bright Solicitors expands support for St Luke’s Hospice joining the Guiding Lights Campaign

Bright Solicitors’ Head of Commercial Law, Serena Frost and Marketing Consultant, Rebecca Chatfield, recently visited St Luke’s Hospice in Turnchapel to meet with members of the hospice’s Partnerships Team and discuss a range of exciting fundraising initiatives planned for the year ahead.

During the visit, Serena and Rebecca met with Sarah and Pete from the Partnerships Team to learn more about the hospice’s current priorities, explore future fundraising opportunities and discuss how Bright Solicitors can continue to support the charity throughout its year as the firm’s chosen Charity of the Year for 2025/26.

As announced earlier this year, Bright Solicitors selected St Luke’s Hospice as its Charity of the Year, recognising the incredible care, compassion and support the organisation provides to individuals living with progressive life-limiting illnesses and to their families during some of life’s most challenging moments.

The visit offered a valuable opportunity to see first-hand the impact of the hospice’s work across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall and to strengthen the growing relationship between the two organisations.

As part of its ongoing commitment, Bright Solicitors is proud to be supporting St Luke’s Guiding Lights campaign and will sponsor one of the campaign’s illuminated lighthouses that will be placed around Plymouth during the summer. The initiative provides organisations and individuals with the opportunity to sponsor a lighthouse in memory of a loved one or as a symbol of support, helping to raise vital funds that enable St Luke’s to continue delivering compassionate end-of-life care across the region.

Bright Solicitors’ support for St Luke’s extends far beyond fundraising activities. Earlier this year, the firm joined a consortium of local businesses to help fund the sponsorship of Plymouth Argyle’s Lyndhurst Road Stand, which was proudly renamed the St Luke’s Hospice Lyndhurst Road Stand in recognition of the hospice’s invaluable contribution to the local community. The initiative serves as a lasting tribute to the care and support St Luke’s provides to families across Plymouth and the surrounding areas, while raising awareness of its vital work among thousands of football supporters throughout the season. Continuing this support, a team from Bright Solicitors will be taking part in St Luke’s Charity Abseil this July, descending the side of the St Luke’s Hospice Lyndhurst Road Stand to help raise even more funds for the charity.

The firm’s fundraising efforts have already included some remarkable challenges. Last year, Managing Partner Alex Jeffery took fundraising to new heights by completing a charity skydive in support of St Luke’s. More recently, members of the Bright Solicitors team have continued to demonstrate their commitment to supporting St Luke’s Hospice through a variety of fundraising challenges and events. These have included Ethan Cochrane’s participation in the Milan Marathon, as well as a team taking part in the Plymouth Half Marathon and 10K. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our colleagues, clients and supporters, we have already raised £5,578 this year, with many more fundraising initiatives planned in the months ahead.

Alongside these headline events, Bright Solicitors continues to raise vital funds through the generosity of its clients. The firm regularly donates residual client balances, where clients authorise funds to be donated to charity at the conclusion of matters rather than returned, helping to create a steady stream of support for St Luke’s throughout the year.

A number of additional fundraising activities are also planned in the coming months, including coffee mornings, team challenges and community events, with several exciting initiatives currently in development.

Speaking following the visit, Serena Frost said:

“It was incredibly moving to visit St Luke’s and see first-hand the difference the charity makes to so many families across our region. Rebecca and I were delighted to meet Sarah and Pete and learn more about the hospice’s work, ambitions and fundraising plans. The compassion, professionalism and dedication shown by everyone involved is truly remarkable. We are proud to support St Luke’s as our Charity of the Year and look forward to raising vital funds and awareness throughout the year ahead.”

St Luke’s Hospice provides specialist end-of-life care across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall, supporting patients wherever they call home, whether in their own homes, hospitals, care homes or at the hospice’s specialist unit in Turnchapel.

The charity supports more than 300 patients and their families at any one time and provides care across a catchment area of approximately 1,500 square miles. Its work is made possible by around 800 staff and volunteers, including approximately 600 volunteers who generously give their time to support patient care, fundraising, retail operations and community events.

As an independent charity, St Luke’s relies heavily on donations and community fundraising to continue delivering its services. There are many ways individuals and businesses can get involved, including signing up to the St Luke’s Lottery, attending one of the charity’s popular coffee mornings, volunteering, participating in fundraising events or making a donation.

Every contribution helps ensure that compassionate end-of-life care remains available to local families when they need it most.

Bright Solicitors looks forward to continuing its partnership with St Luke’s Hospice and helping to make a lasting difference across the communities both organisations proudly serve.
