James’ Apprenticeship Blog – Part 4
James Jenkins | July 2023
Hi, my name is James, I started my IT apprenticeship on the 20th of February 2023.
This blog series is about my experiences working as an IT apprentice at a successful law firm in the heart of Plymouth.
Since my last blog, I have been very busy. Now that I have got used to everything here at Bright and I’m more comfortable, the firm has now given me the responsibility of writing the internal staff newsletter every month. The purpose of this is to communicate monthly news to all departments and also to show a light-hearted side of the developments within the firm. I also meet up with the partners, who decide on the employee of the month.
IT Organisation and Facilities
Recently I have been given a key role in organizing the storage and server room of the IT department by building shelves for storage, this has helped us to be able to store more things useful to our department and has made it more accessible to the team.
Helping New Staff
I have also been busy this month setting up desks for new starters joining the firm by putting together monitors and plugging in the wires needed, not only have I been doing this but I have also been setting up their accounts for various websites they need in their departments and the phone system so they can communicate to our clients.
Networking Activities
I will also be representing the firm in the charity football league every Wednesday. The tournament comprises of 12 local businesses and will raise money for the Argyle Community Trust, who are also our charity of the year. This is a great opportunity to network with local businesses we work with and an opportunity to grow my own personal network within the Plymouth business community.
